What is a PA service for older people?

We all know life gets more and more difficult as we get older. This is true for everyone, even those of us who have been very capable in past years. A Blossom Personal Assistant can help with a broad range of things - really anything that supports you stay independent in your own home for as long as possible. From taking you shopping to ordering an online grocery delivery; support with life admin like contacting your energy supplier to applying for a Blue Badge; helping with food prep or making a meal plan; taking you to appointments or just out for a coffee. The list goes on... Please note, however, we are not a care agency and do not offer hands-on care or medication.

How long does it take to get to know my PA?

It might be a week or it might be a month. Generally speaking, after about a month, you will know if having the support of a Personal Assistant has added value to your life. Ultimately, the service has got to be beneficial to you, hopefully right from the start, but the relationship will with your PA will grow and develop over time as you get to know then and they get to know you.

What areas do you cover?

We are a small but growing business and we plan on covering all of Edinburgh and the Lothians. The aim is to match local clients with local PAs which makes so much sense. Please get in touch and tell us where about you live and we will see if we have a trusted PA in your area (or we will endeavour to find one)!

Question 4

How long do visits last typically?

Accepted Answer

Visits normally last 2-3 hours. There is a minimum 2hr visit per week required to book a regular weekly session. But lots of clients have more than this.

Question 5

How many visits a week can I book?

Accepted Answer

That's up to you. Most clients book between 1-3 visits per week.

Sometimes more for a short period of time if, for example, they know family are going to be away or if they are retuning home after a hospital stay.

How much do you charge?

Prices range from between £25-£45 per hour depending on what type of service you require and if you will be a regular or short-term client. Please get in touch and we can give more details based on your needs.

Question 7

Do you include travel expenses in the fee?

Accepted Answer

Yes. If you would like your PA to drive you to certain places the travel and petrol is included for journeys within a 5mile radius. For longer distances, there is a 45p/mile rate that will be added to your invoice.

Can I stop the service at any time?

Accepted Answer

Yes, you can stop at any time. We do kindly ask for a 3 week notice period, if at all possible, but that is up to you.

Question 9

What happens if I want to cancel or change a visit?

Accepted Answer

At Blossom PA we want to offer as flexible a service as possible. You may wish to go on holiday or visit family so you can cancel or reschedule visits if you need to at no extra cost. Please let your PA know as soon as you can for any planned changes. We recognise that life can be unpredictable and sometimes you might need to cancel a visit at short notice, there may be a small fee for this but this will be detailed in our Terms and Conditions.

Question 10

What happens if my PA needs to cancel or change a visit?

Life can be unpredictable for your PA too! Perhaps, illness or a sick child to pick up from school... Your PA will give you as much notice as possible if they are unable to be with you on a planned visit. You will not be charged if your PA has to cancel.  Sometimes your PA will take time off for annual leave and this will be communicated at least one month in advance so other arrangements can be made, if needed.
